Endlich habe ich ein probates Mittel gefunden, um meinen Papi frühmorgens gut gelaunt aus den Gänsefedern zu bekommen. Ich robbe einfach zum CD-Player und lege den unvergleichlichen, bärenstarken und fantastischen neuen Hit der kanadischen Rockband Nickelback ein: Gotta Be Somebody. Das fetzt ordentlich und es könnte passieren, dass man danach Madonna für eine Schlaftablette hält. Aber egal, Hauptsache, Papi ist munter!

Im Jahre 1995 wurde Nickelback im kanadischen Städtchen Hanna in der Prärieprovinz Albärta (schade, Ihr Menschen schreibt lieber Alberta) gegründet. Sie besteht aus den Halbbrüdern Chad und Mike Kroeger (ersterer Gesang/Gitarre, letzterer Bass) sowie aus Daniel Adair (seit März 2005, das ist bereits der vierte Nickelback-Drummer!) und Ryan Peake (Gitarre/Gesang).

Der Bandname entstand, als Mike noch bei einer Kaffeehauskette jobbte und fleißig Wechselgeld zurückgab. Das war aufgrund der Preise meistens ein Fünf-Cent-Stück und so sagte Mike stets: „Here’s your nickel back“. Ob das wohl immer so freundlich klang? Meine deutsche Bärenband hätte ich da doch lieber „Stimmtso“ genannt …

Laut der Webseite www.laut.de beschreiben Nickelback ihre Musik selbst als „hard rocking, energetic and entertaining rhythm driven songwriting. Guaranteed to pack the floor and drive a crowd into a frenzy!” Da wird mir ganz schwindlig.

Dabei klingt Chad anderenorts (unter www.roadrunnerrecords.de) gänzlich unbeeindruckt vom oft schrägen Rockzirkus, von mittlerweile mehr als 27 Millionen verkaufter Alben samt glamouröser Grammy-Auszeichnung: „Unser Erfolg ist nicht selbstverständlich. Wir wissen, dass all das morgen vorbei sein und man ganz schnell in der Anonymität verschwinden kann.“

Sein Halbbruder Mike ergänzt: „Jeder einzelne Song sollte absolut großartig sein, denn nichts anderes erwarte ich als Musikhörer selbst.“ Und um auch noch Nickelbacks Gitarristen Ryan Peake zu zitieren: „Wir sind eine Band für ganz normale Menschen. Wenn man bei diesen Leuten dauerhaft seine Fanbase finden kann, ist das schon ziemlich cool.“ Der Drummer sagt nichts, sondern schaut nur, siehe oben links.

Fanbase hin, Fanbär her: Ein kleiner brauner Bär wartet auf ein dunkles Pferd – die neue Nickelback-CD „Dark Horse“ erscheint in diesen Tagen, genauer gesagt am 14. November. Ach so, mein lieber Papi macht mir grad die Pointe kaputt und sagt, dass Dark Horse hier Außenseiter bzw. unbeschriebenes Blatt bedeuten soll. Ich schnall‘ mich trotzdem lieber schon mal an!
